We do a lot of machining of aluminum parts in different shapes and sizes. Some are machined to very high precision, but others have less demanding tolerance requirements. These brackets are machined in 6061-T6 Aluminum on our Haas Machining Center.
We made two sizes to try out different configurations. When we do machining, we do not need technical drawings, unless there are some critical tolerances requirements that are called out on the drawing. We program our CNC machines directly from 3D CAD files, using SolidWorks and CAMworks. CAMworks is integrated with SolidWorks for a seamless user interface. This is actually the first part we made after upgrading to the latest version of SolidWorks 2016 and CAMworks 2016. Luckily we had no problems, and the parts turned out great.
